A Virtual Fieldtrip to the San Diego Zoo!

http://kids.sandiegozoo.org/animal-cams-videos
We are going on a virtual fieldtrip all the way to sunny California this week to check out some animals at the zoo! Next week, we will work on a project to illustrate what we saw. The Kindergarteners and first graders are learning all about the internet and how to stay safe when visiting. They are also learning about the cool things that the internet can provide for us! Have fun checking us out on our trip!

What's happening!!

We have been hard at work in the lab! Kindergarteners are doing an incredible job of learning how to manipulate the mouse and use the keyboard. They are just so cute!! First grade is working on an All About Me slide in Pixie. It's fun to see what is important to them. Second grade is using Pixie to create a table showing the three states of matter. They are doing a great job so far! Third grade has jumped into PowerPoint! They are working on number representation. This will take a couple of weeks because once they enter in the information, they are going to learn how to add animations! Fourth grade will be creating a food chain using PowerPoint. I expect they will be awesome. Fifth grade is experimenting with email. They are quite excited! 3rd through 5th are proving to be quite the expert bloggers! I am very proud of all nearly 700 of my TCE friends!!! :)

E-Mail

It's been an exciting start to the year for our 5th graders! We are in the process of creating email accounts for each of the students. This is a closed network, and they can only correspond with students of their choosing. I will receive copies of all emails and keep up with appropriate usage on a daily basis. The students are well aware of what is acceptable and what is not! We have discussed that the consequence for misuse is immediate deletion of the account. They are truly enjoying the privilege of chatting through our K-Mail accounts and I can't wait to get all of the students set up next week!

We are Having a BLAST with Blogging!!!

Wow, I didn't know what to expect when I decided to create individual blog accounts for the third, fourth, and fifth graders. But, I am thrilled to disvover that the students seem to be loving having their very own websites. I love to see the many personalities coming through in each child's writing. There is so much for me to learn about all of my new friends. I love that they are being supportive with one another and finding new connections. Please feel free to click on the links to the right and check us out!!! Please read them knowing that they are from children third through fifth grade of all academic levels. If you stop by a blog, take a moment to leave a comment! If you are a teacher at TCE, I will be getting to how-to information to you very soon. If you are a parent, please know that I am monitoring the posts and comments carefully and will do my best to teach your child internet responsibility and will do every thing I can to protect your/their privacy! Have fun reading!

What an AWESOME first day!

Thank you to my classes that came to me our first day. You were all amazingly wonderful. I have to admit, it was my first day in the lab and I was a bit nervous. But, you all made it a fantastic start to the year. Third, fourth, and fifth graders are starting up their very own blogs. The two classes that began today did a great job with their first posts. Click on the Student Blog links to the right to see what they have to say. Happy new school year!
